About us

Saight was born from a multi-year collaboration between researchers at UT Austin’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and Dell Medical School, uniting expertise in artificial intelligence with frontline clinical experience in colorectal cancer care. What began as a research effort to improve the visibility of subtle polyps during colonoscopy evolved into a breakthrough segmentation technology with the potential to transform screening worldwide. As a lab spinoff led by the original investigators, Saight is now raising pre-seed funding to bring this innovation out of the academic environment and into the hands of clinicians who need it most.

Founders

Sofia Hurtado, Ph.D.

Chief Executive Officer

Leads Saight’s commercialization strategy, customer discovery, and company-building efforts. She holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Southern California, an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Her business training includes the national NSF I-Corps program and a Founders in Residence fellowship at UT Austin’s Brumley Graduate Institute of Entrepreneurship. At Saight, she is focused on bringing real-time computer vision tools into colorectal cancer care.

Radu Marculescu, Ph.D.

Chief Technology Officer

Leads Saight’s technical strategy across AI architecture, efficient computing, and the translation of advanced research into deployable medical technology. He brings more than 25 years of experience in hardware systems, software, and AI research. He is the Laura Jennings Turner Chair in Engineering and a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also an IEEE Fellow and recipient of the 2019 IEEE Computer Society Edward J. McCluskey Technical Achievement Award for seminal contributions to network-on-chip design, analysis, and optimization.

Joga Ivatury, MD MHA FACS FASCRS

Chief Medical Officer

Provides Saight with deep clinical leadership in colorectal cancer care, surgical workflow, and the real-world needs of clinicians performing colonoscopy and colorectal procedures. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Dell Medical School and the inaugural Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at UT Health Austin. He is an experienced colon and rectal surgeon with expertise in advanced treatment techniques for colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex anorectal disease. 

Mostafijur Rahman, Ph.D.

Scientific Advisor

Leads the scientific development of Saight’s core computer vision technology, building on his foundational research in efficient and robust medical image segmentation. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on AI systems for medical imaging, with emphasis on computational efficiency, data efficiency, robustness, and generalization.
